Experience

Retired schoolteacher with 35 years experience in grades K-12, university, and adult education. Taught in: San Diego, California (Master teacher in Spanish); Beirut, Lebanon (where she was also a curriculum coordinator) ; Athens, Georgia (Clarke Co. School System & University of Georgia adjunct). Holds K-12 lifetime teaching certificate in Georgia. Nominated twice for "teacher of the year".

Part time shepherdess, fiber artist (handspinning, weaving), and historical interpreter. Demonstrator/guest speaker in schools and festivals. Her fiber works have been exhibited in various shows at the Lyndon House Arts Center, Athens, GA. Her farm, The Phoenix Venture, specializes in livestock native to the Middle East.

Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children (a volunteer position) 2002-2006; named CASA Volunteer of the Year (Clarke County, GA) in 2003.

Music Practitioner with Hospice Care Options, Macon, GA 2005-present; Member of the Middle Georgia Harp Ensemble.

President and founder of the non-profit Blue Heron Lake Nature Conservancy, Inc. Dedicated to preserving & protecting the natural environment, educating children & community, and providing recreation & respite.

Education

Graduated in 1964 from Colorado State Teacher's College in Greeley, Colorado with a double major: Spanish and Elementary Education.

Did graduate work at the Escuela Normal de Profesores in Saltillo, Mexico and obtained her M.A. in 1969 from California Western University in San Diego (Project in Foreign Languages in the Elementary School).

Completed her Ed.S. in library-media from the University of Georgia in 1979, taking additional course work at the University of Victoria in British Columbia.
